ClearSmoke Premium review

The Best Electronic Cigarette

This is a review of ClearSmoke's Premium Starter Kit purchased from http://www.clearsmoke.co.uk/default.aspx

When I first started researching ClearSmoke I  couldn't seem to find any information about the company itself. So I gave them a quick call to ask them a few questions. They were established in 2009 are a UK based provider located in Linlithgow, Scotland which is where Skycig are also located. If you believe the claims on their website, they are selling some serious volume of products, as they claim to have millions of UK customers!

ClearSmoke were previously running a 'free trial' campaign which generated some negative customer feedback due to the T&C's of the campaign stating that the 'free' kit must be returned within 15 days or a charge of £59.95 would be applied. Whilst I have not seen this promotion for a while, something to watch out for in case it is relaunched.

Anyway, let's get on with review. In terms of the Premium kit, the only customisation option available is in relation to the nicotine strength of the included cartomizers.

Presentation box / packaging

The box is a narrow black cardboard with the ClearSmoke logo on the top and the product model stated underneath. The top shell of the box is removed completely, and the contents are an extremely snug fit. So much so, that I almost lost patience and ripped the whole thing open!

Included in the box are the following:

  • 2 x batteries These look like approx 100 mah
  • 4 x cartomizers Tobacco flavour
  • 1 x mains charger
  • 1 x USB charger
  • 1 x manual

"a micro ecig kit at £59.95 without a PCC is bordering on the shameful"

Battery

The ClearSmoke product range falls within the micro e cigarette category alongside the likes of Skycig and the Liberro Realis. The batteries included within this kit are both approx 100mah and are charged via the rather chunky USB charger and take approximately 2hrs to charge. The product has the typical light at the end of the battery which flashes to indicate when a  re-charge is required. The problem with this kit is that there is no PCC (personal charging case) and these small batteries will only last about an hour or so. So, unless you buy another battery (which range from £14.95 to £22.95.....there are full kits on the market for £22.95!) you will be restricted to leaving the house for a couple of hours max. Not ideal at all and a pretty big flaw.

Switch (responsiveness)

In terms of the switch, the product performed well. There was no delay in the switch operation, activating immediately without the need for a lung busting draw. So no problem in this department (albeit I was using it sparingly as I didn't want to waste the precious battery life!)

Vaping experience

This product is a 2 part electronic cigarette and is assembled by screwing the battery into the cartomizer. I quite liked the look of the fully assembled product with the Clearsmoke branding at the top of the cartomizer accompanied with two blue bands around the filter.

In terms of the vapour production, the ClearSmoke Premium kit produced a decent amount for it's size. I opted for the medium strength 18mg tobacco flavour, which I thought was relatively nice. Similar in taste to the Mirage tobacco range. The throat kick produced from the 18mg was also pretty good, providing a substantial hit with each draw.

The ClearSmoke Premium Starter kit is a little overpriced and needs a PCC

Donny's final thoughts

Quite a frustrating product as in terms of vaping it performed relatively well producing a decent throat hit and nice vapour clouds. BUT..... a micro electronic cigarette that does not have a PCC, is ridiculous as you spend more time worrying about battery life than enjoying the experience itself! Bear in mind this product is £59.95 and that doesn't include a PCC. A solution I suppose would be a shotgun cartridge holder style belt of which you could carry additional batteries.........at £14.95 a pop!
